February 7, 2022 — Montreal, Canada. BetterMilk Inc., the first Canadian company to make milk with mammary cells, today announced an official company name change to Opalia. Following their establishment in 2020, the company’s hopeful new name is meant to bring on a new era of delicious alternative dairy products that don’t feel or taste like an alternative. Milk, being at the center of the company’s business model, still inspires all brand material applications moving forward, even if it’s no longer part of the name.
New Year, New Name: BetterMilk Reintroduces Itself as Opalia
When we started BetterMilk in September of 2020, we had vision for a better future. Fast forward to February 2022, we still aspire to a future where all food can be tasty and animal free, just under a new name. After months of working on it behind the scenes (and months of build-up), we are so excited to finally unveil Opalia to the world. BetterMilk’s objective was to establish its footing in the alternative dairy world, it was a bold name for a dairy company creating the future of milk. Now that we’re 16 months old, we are ready for something bigger and with a wider reach. Opalia opens to new horizons, multiple products and facets.
Why Opalia?
In Ancient Rome, ‘the Opalia’ was a festival in honor of the goddess Ops. Ops or Opis was a goddess of abundance, agricultural resources, and wealth. In Greek mythology, Ops was referred to as Rhea, wife of Kronos (Time) whose name meant ‘flow’. Rhea represented the eternal flow of time and generations, and ‘flow’ was also seen as milk. We thought the name and its symbolic significance was perfect for our mission of bringing sustainable and ethical dairy to feed the generations to come.
